Katharina Grüneisl is an urban geographer with a passion for marketplaces, architecture(s) and the rhythms, sounds and scents that define a city. She wrote her PhD thesis on the “fripe” (second-hand clothes) economy in Tunisia’s capital Tunis, and remains based there as a post-doctoral researcher for Leipzig University/ the Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb (MECAM). Before this, Katharina worked in urban development in Egypt and Kenya, and studied urbanism and political science between Lebanon, France and the UK. She is also passionate about arts education and has organised workshops with El Warcha and an exhibition at the Maison de l’Image in Tunis.
